The first shoot myself and my co-workers did was filmed at around about 2 Oclock therefore day light after we did this we fund that it was to light to comply with the conventions that a horror movie has. This is because in the horror genre it is dark to relate to the audience that bad things happen in the dark this is also a generic stereotype. Therefore we re shot the trailer on the 10/11/12 and we started at 4 o'clock when dusk was upon on this gave us the perfect natural lighting we needed as it was not to light nor to dark. With this lighting we filmed several scenes however this lighting did not last long therefore we began to use key lighting through torches with these we filmed two more scenes however we got to the point where by we could not film no longer as you could not see anything through the camera.
Therefore we chose to film another day this day was the 12/11/12, on this day we managed to capture the rest of our footage therefore in the end we managed to capture better footage that applied to the conventions of the horror genre.
Such films that apply to the horror conventions of darkness are Friday the 13th and paranormal activity however not all the footage is done in the dark its normally in props narrative terms the scenes where the problem occurs and then the light would symbolize the repairing of the problem.

Clapper Boards
When we filmed our trailer as like professional filming not every scene goes exactly to plan and to make it as good as it can be a scene may need re-filming therefore I have showcased some of these scenes through a clapperboard style sheet.
Please note that the scene number refers to the storyboards not the running order, also excluding ident and title pages.

Film Pitch
My group have created a film pitch to show to investors it show cases every reason why one would invest in our film, it is crucial for every film to create a film pitch as the investors will then know what the film is about. Whilst we made our pitch the the hopeful investors it was filmed for the purpose of us using it in our planning stage of the marketing process for Forrest Massacre. Every production company would require the person(s) to create a pitch as creating a pitch results in there verdict on whether they are in or whether they are out, every film I have looked at or viewed will of at some point created a pitch for an investors to view. It includes the storyboards that will of been drawn up, cast list, prop list, location list, synopsis, success in the genre and finally why invest.

Idents
Every movie trailer contains an ident of some sort these can be
standard logo's for a particular production company however such films as
Harry Potter as massive franchised movie can have the ability to have a
specific one for example in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 trailer
they show cased this using a Warner Brothers created ident.
Here is the
trailer:
My team have
selected a range of idents we could use in our trailer, however we had to
select one that would fit well with the trailer, the following is idents
we looked at:
Lions Gate:
Lions Gate
Entertainment Corporation is a North American entertainment company it was
formed in Vancover in July 3, 1997 and is ran in Santa Monica California.
As of 2012 it was named the most commercially successful independent
film and television distribution company in North America and the sixth most
profitable movie studio. Its first major box office success was American Psycho
in 2000 this began a trend of controversial movies for major film
companies. It was announced in January 2012 that it
had acquired Summit Entertainment producers
and distributors of the Twilight Saga films for $412.5 million The
two companies have planned merging since 2008.One of Its best success was the
Hunger Games the highest grossing film after just three days. The Ident used for
this production company has not changed vastly as its
a relatively new production company. However I feel this production
company would be best for my trailer as you can see that it has covered horror
films in its history, this is as well of its Ident being a good fit into
the trailer. As the Ident features dark clouds in the background with just
"LIONSGATE" spread across them simplistic and perfect for our
trailer. Also the example I have got is from a horror movie based in the
woods as like my teams is.
Old Lions Gate:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2Ddju4lyr4
Paramount new
cinema:
Paramount
Pictures Corporation is a film and television production
and distribution company, it was founded in 1912 therefore making it
the fourth oldest existing film studio in the world behind Universal studios,
Pathe and Gaumont Pictures. The Paramount Pictures studio is the last remaining
major film studio still to be based in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles.
Paramount is ranked as one of the largest top grossing movie studios.
Paramount
are well established/known for there continued efforts and support in the
continuation of a single movie into a sequel (Franchise) such famous movies as
the Transformers movies, Paranormal Activity and The Godfather.
The
Paramount Ident/Logo is the oldest surviving Hollywood film
logo as it has been used since the beginning of Paramount
Pictures Corporation, its believed that the mountain is based of a doodle
made by one W. W . Hodkinson whilst in a meeting with Adolph Zukor, said
to be based of a fond memory of growing up in the state of Utah. Although it
remains the oldest Ident in Hollywood film it has gone through some
changes over its long existence. As the logo began with as a charcoal
rendering of the mountain ringed with superimposed stars
- originally 24 stars this was in tribute to the amount of actors
assigned at this time. In 1953 a newer, more realistic looking logo was
created for the purpose of 3D however it was later reworked
therefore made in widescreen process. By 1986 other known as there
75th anniversary a new logo was prepared - it was done by the use of
computer generated lakes and stars wold make a feature it was designed by
Dario Campanile. It was done so that instead of the stars
being superimposed they would move across the screen to create the arc shape.
Therefore I would say that this was the biggest changed brought into by
Paramount Pictures Corporation. This continued up until 2002 where as
it had its 90th anniversary, this brought round a whole new logo which included
shooting stars which would fall from the night sky to form an arc whilst
simultaneously the Paramount logo would fly into place between them. The next
change seen by Paramount was used firstly for another
franchised movie Mission Impossible this one being the 2011
Ghost Protocol - it involves the surrounding mountain range and the
sun shining in the background. It holds a disclaimer to be used until the
beginning of 2013, Therefore if my group where to sue this it would have to be
the new logo created.
However I
think that it is not the Ident to be used as I have not seen it used in
the Horror genre as of yet as it appears to be used in more action packed
movies and also used for franchised movies for example Mission
Impossible and Transformers.
Some
Other production companies I looked at but then dismissed where Warner
Brothers, Dream works, Walt Disney and 20 Century Fox. I
have dismissed the use of these due to the reason of them not
fitting my trailers genre for example take Warner Brother this
production company is massive possibly the biggest however they would not suit
the genre as its more children's fantasy movie or television
programs rather than for the use of Horror Movies.

Audio Tracks
Florence and the Machines Seven Devils:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBcXe2B97TQ
Once I heard this track I thought it could be really good for the purpose of the trailer due to use of natural sound and the Gothic build up into the chorus, once into the chorus the audio picks making a very dramatic sound which in theory could match up to the jump cuts.
The Hunger Games - Soundtrack:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fr_eafDUGi8
This soundtrack is one created for another trailer however I really like it as it is very dramatic and could really fit into our trailer. However we also need music to match those scenes that are not jump cuts and as dramatic for example in the opening scene where there are slow panning motions used to show the area in which the trailer/movie takes place also known as the establishing shots.
David Guetta feat Kid Cudi - Memories
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUVCQXMUVnI&feature=related
I feel this song could be used at the beginning of the trailer where the teenagers are enjoying themselves at the campsite. As it is a very stereotypical song as well for teenagers - this will give use another problem though because this way we would have to make the two soundtracks mix into one another as this track could not be sued throughout as it would not be suitable for other scenes such as where the jump cuts come in on the running scenes later on in the trailer.
Friday the 13th trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MiJzZ7FQX0
I really like the audio from this trailer as I think it could fit with our trailer, for example this natural sound such as the river running and the owl noises. Which would benefit us as at the start of our trailer we are having a similar setting where by the scenery is shown through panning movements of the woods tree line and the river running.
Chainsaw Massacre - The Birth:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLjvXSx231s
This is the soundtrack we have chosen to use as its connnotations bring to mind the idea of horror, when shown to an audinece they all said it was powerful for example in the soundtrack there is a load bang in it and this links to when the unknown figure suddely moves across the camera lens. The soundtrack begins very quiet as it builds up in tempo. It will require some from of editing to get it to match up to certain scenes such as when the jump cuts come in we have had to crop the soundtrack down so that it matches the timing. However worth the time and effort as it goes really well as the tempo is very high and allines with the jump cuts in the trailer. It also works well in the closing of the trailer for example it fades out along with the trailers ending. It plays on the mind and builds an atomphere and from our research we have done its the exact effect we are looking for.

Magazine Mockup
This is the magazine mock-up I have created for the part of the marketing process for Forrest Massacre. The Incentive will be stretched across the top of the magazine this is done throughout magazine covers as it is part of a house-style. The incentive will say something like "Free Forrest Massacre Poster Inside". This is important as its in the word it incenses people to read the magazine. The next feature I will talk about is the Masthead.
The Masthead other known as the magazine title (Elite Films) will be is big red letters standing out to everything else on the magazine including the film title, It will be placed at the the top of the magazine just below the magazines incentive this position would not move whatever edition of the magazine it is due to it being house-style, I know this from the research I have done on the past for magazine front covers of movies.
Next on the magazine cover will be the splash headline other known as the movies title "Forrest Massacre" this will be in the same font seen in thee poster and also the trailer as I am attempting to keep a house style to the marketing process for Forrest Massacre.
This will then be followed by a strap line also known as the films motto "WELCOME TO THE WOODS" this will be used throughout the marketing process also as it will become a way for the audience to recognize the movie.
Another feature used on all magazine front covers is a bar code this is just a standard item to have on magazine they all do it however some have the bar code on the back of the magazine but I am only tasked with crating the front cover.
Finally the last item on my magazine is the use of pugs - these are just very small items of text that will be related to the contents of the magazine for example I will have to mention other movies such as I will use a subheading saving PLUS which will be followed with a list of other stuff in the magazine for example Taken 2 exclusive.
The final part of the magazine front cover which could be seen as the most important part which changes from edition to edition is the photo. I hope to get an image that is a mid shot as the magazines I have seen in the past are medium shots as they seem more personal about the character rather than the film in general.
Poster Mockup
This is the mock-up of the poster I have created, after looking through a variety of film posters for a variety of movie genre's I have come across a similarity or several similarities these are the features they each had a masthead, billing block (cast list and production company), strap line, production company logo and finally a age certificate. Therefore if I was going to be conventional about this I would apply them also - guess what I did.
Firstly the masthead I will use is still to be created however I know that I will apply it to this poster the magazine and the trailer creating a house style for the whole marketing process. I feel it is important to keep to the same font throughout as it will be important to the film success as if the font changes the audience will not know what to compare the movie to.
Next I will talk about the use of the billing block, this is where all the cast or at least the majority of roles will be and also the production company is located. It is important for a movie to use this feature as it is a form of advertisement because people could watch the film if there is a recognizable company pushing the movie or also a actors fan base may watch the movie. However I also noticed a standard to the billing block as all posters seemed to use the same condensed text.
The strap-line - I have made the decision to use one of these on my poster as I feel that if I use social networking sites to also push the success f the film it would work in my faviour as my audience use many social networking sites as it is "mainstream".
The production company logo's relate to the billing block also another form of advertising.
Finally I will be using a certificate on the poster which is used to persuade the audience about how old they have to be to see the film. This is not a advertising feature as such however it is necessary to have.
The image I will reflect horror as I hope/plan to use an low angle shot to make the character come across as dominating and threatening and the character will be dressed in costume.
Venue Release Forms
These are the required sheets that need to be filled out, they state the actors is happy to play the role and there contact details. As you can see I did not have any hassle with these as all actors where happy to carry on to be in the trailer for "Forrest Massacre".
Costume List
Costume List
These are the actors in their costumes prior to the shoot,
these costumes have been put together carefully in order to construct the most
realistic look possible for the trailer. It was for the purpose of creating a
stereotypical teenager look that would be relatable to our audience. Therefore
as seen in the images below they are
wearing jeans, hooded jackets, T-Shirts and trainers.
Tom Cannon - Chris
Josh Filson - Dave
Ste Hendrikse -Jason
Luke Hignett - Steve
Andy Nelson - Unknown Figure
Prop List
Props List
The following is images and
descriptions of the props required in our filming along with some that were not
required. These props do not play and intellectual role in the production
however together they make the scene more realistic. This is due to the fact
it's an horror movie genre and through research I have found that the location
plays the most vital role.
Alcohol
This prop will
consist of mostly empty beer cans, these beer cans will be scattered on the
floor where the 5 teenagers intend to "camp" this is used for the
jump cuts scenes were the teenagers are at the beginning enjoying themselves.
Therefore these cans make the scene more realistic and relatable to the
audience. And also makes the purpose of this "camping trip" more
obvious. A can of beer will also be used which will be shaken up and then
popped to create an exciting scene.
Bags
The bags do not play
a significant role in the production however in the scenes that are based at
the camp site, as using these items it makes that scene more accurate to what
this would look like in a real life situation as this is the idea of a horror
genre, to make people relate in essence fearful that this could be real life.
An example of this is "You have
watched to many movies" this is due to stereotypical props etc.
Knife
This large sharp
knife is used throughout the trailer however you do not see the knife until one
of the concluding scenes. This knife is the weapon that the "Unknown
Figure" uses, The knife is seen by a camera shot "extreme close
up" this angle shows blood dropping from the tip of the blade. This blood
being from the character Steve. This scene is in slow motion.
Gloves
The Gloves will be
worn by the character Steve, and then one of the gloves will be focused on by
using an extreme close up (showing its importance). This prop leads to the
discovery of Steve's body. Therefore this is one of the key props used in the
trailer.
Camping Gear
The camping gear will
be placed in the "camp site" area for
the teenagers, this is being done
so that the trailer will look more realistic to watch.
Blood
The blood is going to
be used for when Steve's body is located, the blood will be on the shirt in the area that Steve has been
stabbed, the blood will also be used in other areas of the trailer such as
being rubbed onto a tree. This prop is one of the most crucial props as what is a horror film without blood.
Defensive Sticks
The defensive sticks
we have used are a natural defence mechanism that any person would
use if in the same circumstance
that these 5 teenagers are in.
Flash Lights
The flash lights are
going to be implemented into the trailer once the light fades, they also make the trailer more
realistic.
Un-used Items
Blood tablets
We did not have a
need for the blood tablets in the end after we could not track them down so we
therefore over came this problem by getting fake blood and then artistically
applying it to the "Unknown Figures" mouth.
Fire
As much as we wanted
to use the fire we could not due to the owner of the location did not permit
the use of the fire.
Actors List
Character Descriptions
Steve - (Luke Hignett)
We
chose this actor to play the role of Steve because of his stereotypical
teenager features. We felt that he would best adapt to the role in the hope
that this would then be relatable to our target audience "teenagers".
Jason - (Ste Hendrikse)
Ste
Hendrikse is one of the chosen actors in our film, chose to play the role of
Jason. Jason is one of the five teenagers - therefore Ste has been chosen because
he fits a stereotypical teenager image. In the character descriptions it also
mentions that Jason is the intellectual member of the group therefore we have decided to stick to conventions as much as possible and convey
this "nerdy" image, this will be helped by the costume e.g.
glasses.
Dave - (Josh Filson)
We
have selected Luke Hignett to play the role of Dave, Dave being another member
of the group of five. We have selected Luke also because of his stereotypical
teenager image and tendencies. Luke also relates to his character description
of being the dare devil as he is willing to complete his own stunts - his
Ora comes across as outgoing as
well so we therefore hope the audience can relate to this.
Chris
– (Tom Cannon)
We have chosen Tom
Cannon to play the role of Chris as he has stereotypical qualities of a
teenager. Chris is the entertainer of the group and likes to make everyone
laugh therefore comes across as a likeable character that everyone gets along
with and the audience can route for.
Unknown Figure – (Andy Nelson, Josh
Filson)
Location List
Location List
Entrance Bridge:
This is used in the first scene where the teenager enter the
woods, it was an important scene as it symbolizes the break between civilization and for a lack of better words "vulnerability in the
woods". Over on the right hand side of the bridge there is a small embankment where the camera will be set up on a tripod, this will give us a good shot not facing any houses or the school. The actors will be walking from the far end of the bride towards where this photographer was. This will create a shot of the teenagers walking across the bridge in a long shot.
Pathway:
This was the pathway where the running scene takes place
where the "Unknown Figure" jumps over the camera also known as scene
two. This scene is the first glimpse of the "Unknown Figure" therefore an important one to get right. Along this path there was a slight raise in the ground therefore we used this to set the camera up on the floor and then the actor to jump over. We choose this path due to the definition of it as all the plants grow beside it.
Campsite:
The campsite is the most crucial of locations used its
extremely artificial as me and my working team assembled it however we feel
that it has been accomplished successfully, as it shows that this would be the
location where as they would stay using the props such as alcohol and sleeping
bags. This area was used throughout the filming. This location will be shown using many different camera angles such as a birds eye view shot and also a long shot.
Tree:
This tree was used for both the in the shots and also for
the use of the camera man, for example it is used when the "Unknown
figure" drops from a tree on to one
of the teenagers, it is also for one of the characters sitting in it. However
it was crucial for the filming of birds eye views. This tree was placed perfectly as it allowed just the right angle to create birds eye view shots and also the member of the group filming this particular scene could get up into the tree.
Bush:
The bush was used for the filming of the blood dripping down
from the leaves also used for when they find Steve, therefore it was an important scene. In order to create the most realistic look we had fake blood which dripped from leaf to leaf. When we where looking for this location we had in mind the blood dripping down from leaf to leaf therefore this bush was perfect for us to use as it had the right amount of leaves on it.
Courtyard:
This is in an abandoned building that we found and decided to use in our movie it was used for a scene where the "Unknown Figure" walks past the camera however we did not use this in the finished trailer as we felt it did not fit.
Window:
This is where one of the actors is found dead lying on the floor below the window, its a key moment therefore we found this place fr the specific reason of it being used for the dead body, therefore when we filmed at night it looked very spooky.
Ledge:
This is used in the trailer when Steve is found and one of the actors jumps over the wall.
